| What is hypnosis?
We have all experienced some form of light hypnotic trance. If you have been so engrossed in a book or a movie and became totally unaware of your surroundings
or if you have driven a car to your destination without remembering the journey you
have experienced spontaneous trance.
Most people are familiar with stage hypnosis. Ironically this form of entertainment
perpetuates the myth that hypnosis takes away the ability to control oneself.
Actually hypnosis is a way of teaching how to have more control over your thoughts,
feelings and behaviors. Hypnosis has been recognized by the American Medical
Association since 1958 as a safe, natural and effective tool that is helpful for a
variety of issues.
What can I expect?
All hypnosis is self-hypnosis. The participant allows him/herself to be guided by
the
hypnotist into a deeply relaxed state of mind. In this state distractions are blocked
out and the mind is focused and receptive to guidance in a positive direction.
The initial session includes some discussion to identify the problem or goal and
clarify the desired changes as well as hypnosis. Regular use of a custom self-
hypnosis CD ($15) for reinforcement may be required. Listening to your custom self-
hypnosis CD will reinforce your hypnosis sessions. The best time is right before
sleep but you can use it anytime you are able to close your eyes and relax.
Running time is approximately 25 minutes. The CD may contain a combination of
relaxation techniques, guided imagery and positive suggestions tailored to your
issue. Techniques are tailored to specific needs as each client is different. Three
to six sessions are recommended to effect change.
The simple yet effective tool, Emotional Freedom Technique, often described as "accupuncture without needles", may be offered as needed. Instruction in the use of EFT is currently offered at hospitals and other wellness centers to clear emotions, for stress management and to help resolve other issues. For more information about EFT visit emofree.com.
Clients experience the sessions as relaxing and enjoyable. Results are dependent on several factors: readiness to change, number and frequency of hypnosis sessions and regular use of self-hypnosis CD.
Sessions are held at:
The Garrett Hypnosis & Wellness Center 3020 N. Kimball 60618
Plan on one hour and a half for the initial visit and subsequent sessions of one hour
at a rate of $70 an hour (effective 4/1/2008).
